The second Open field Workshop at Museu Bordalo Pinheiro – Lisboa took place 15 and 16 July 2017, from 14h30 to 18h30. The drawing and engraving workshop by Joanna Latka had 6 participants.

This workshop entitled “Have more eyes than belly” was based on the Rafael Bordalo PInheiro tile – “Painel de azulejos com borboletas e espiga de trigo”, 1905. The workshop was divided in two sessions, 4 hours each, from 14h30 to 18h30 on July 15 and 16, 2017.

According to the artist Joana Latka, the objective of this workshop was to develop and deepen the expressive, creative and artistic capacities of all those who wish to learn the basics of engraving practice (linoleum technique), such as developing creative thinking, together with conceptual, aesthetic and technical development within graphic images linked to the engravings and illustrations of Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro. Picking up the expression “Have more eyes that belly”, the artist proposed a game in which each participant, using typical Portuguese dishes, created an image to characterize “his/her” people, their habits and customs. This proverb was a pretext, a metaphor, used to characterize cuisine as a space for sharing, given the importance that meals assume in everyday life.
